Getting to know some of the bigger names and familiar avatars in the Flash Gallery.

Edition 8: RainCookie

Q: How did you first discover deviantART?

I first found deviantART through a friend I knew from a virtual pet gamesite. I know, I know… but virtual pet gamesites were really fun back then! I was 12 at the time. (Oh no… illegal deviant!)

Q: What was it about dA that made you want to stay?

The people, the community. There never really were any people around me that were interested in art as I was—and this still applies today. I guess I liked deviantART since almost everything everyone does is art-related. Pretty cool, in my opinion.

Q: What is the story behind your username?

Cold, rainy days are my favorite, and warm cookies are the snacks ever. Not really an epic story, haha.

Q: Who or what got you into Flash?

I got into Flash after seeing flash animations people have done. I remember the first thing I wanted to do was make a full animation series—which was honestly quite silly. You have to learn how to walk before you run.

But just off the top of my head, several artists that really influenced me into flash were joanime, Kite-ridE, and lazy-muffin.

Q: Onto Flash itself, how long have you been using it and do you have a favourite version?

Hmm, I think late 2003? It was during my middle school years. My favorite, and recent, version of Flash is Flash Pro 8. I feel comfy with this version. I'll never upgrade!

Q: What 3 deviations in the deviantART Flash Gallery do you enjoy most? (please provide links/thumbs)

I like LazyMuFFin's birthday flash animations, but I think I like this one more. Only because it's less sad.

Although that's not the full animation, hopefully it counts? “Hoy te amo” by Kite-ridE. I remember watching that as a flash nooblet and wanting to create animations like that.

The first time I saw this, I was totally blown away. Seriously awesome piece of work

Q: What are your pet peeves on dA and/or in general?

I get pretty frustrated/annoyed when a person I don't know (or I barely know) says something like “Can we be friends?” Not because I'm arrogant or egotistical, of course. I just don't know how to answer the question! You gradually become friends with somebody; not because it's verbally declared? Rant, rant…
All that pretty much runs through my head for a good five minutes when somebody asks me that. Listening to people brag is also on my list of pet peeves.

Q: So what have you got up your sleeve at the moment?

Nothing at the moment! But I'll probably be making some animation again.

Q: What would you like to be doing in 5 years time?

I'd like to be done with school and working at a studio or game company doing something art-related. Will that really happen? I can't really say for sure

Q: What do you consider to be your best work?

My most recent work:

Used both Photoshop 7 and Flash to make it. I'd say 45% Photoshop, and 55% Flash.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Life, creation and art… which are pretty much all the same if you really think about it.

Q: What would you say are your 5 favourite animated feature films?

1. Howl's Moving Castle
2. Spirited Away
3. Up
4. Final Fantasy: Advent Children
5. I really can't think of one. … Pokémon: The First Movie?

Q: Other than being creative, what other things do you like doing? What do you do to relax?

I like to watch Korean drama series and play games online—like DotA on Warcraft III Frozen Throne. I don't really play games much anymore though (although I should… great stress reliever!) I also like playing this Korean card game called GoStop with my parents.

Q: What advice would you give to a newcomer of Flash?

Patience is a virtue!

c) What's your all time favourite computer game?

Ragnarok Online. I don't play it anymore, but I used to be hooked on that game while I was in middle school, and a little after that.

g) If you were a Baked Potato, what toppings would you want on you?

Nothing! Just a plain baked potato. Butter is bad for you, and people eat too much salt anyways.
