FL: What do you know about..

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 30, 2007, 7:47 AM

..deviantART and it's copyright policies, rules and regulations on music?

Yes, this old one - you know I love it. I can't get enough.

Presumebly most (I would hope all) who watch me know exactly what the rules are because they are pretty straight forward. So this isn't really aimed at you because if you do know then you're not doing anything wrong. :)

It's those that seem to kick up a big fuss about it and then crash into a flaming wreck. Once you just accept it for what it is then it gets a lot easier let me tell you that.

There even an FAQ entry on the whole subject. While it doesn't answer every possibly asked question on the matter it's pretty much there.

FAQ #614: What are the rules for the use of music and sound effects in a Flash animation?

I'm not interested in talking about that FAQ at the moment, it's a damn good FAQ. What I want to do is open up the floor, an open debate.
Everyone comment with what you know about the music infringement issue and then we can go from there with replies and all that jazz.

The idea is to educate. The problem is that within the circles of ignorance you have just that, ignorance - along with half arsed "facts" and an uneasy willingness to slagg off everyone and everything without a clue.

So, what do you know?

There is only a Flash between the past and future, and exactly that is what I call life… at least for Flasher/Scripter/Designer :D

I already know about it because you explained it to me at the last London meet. :D
:iconeclipsed-reality:
I'll definitely have to remember that faq #... for posting in #Flashers.. that way if need be I'll be able to explain quickly.

I have heard many people talking about some '30 second rule', though I don't know where it came from.. but after hearing it multiple times I began to become skeptical, though I still decided to stray away from any licensed music and such. Just glad that I can put that completely and utterly to rest now, what with this faq and all. People continue to argue about this crap, and now I have the definitive proof, in faq form :D

I know that even if someone has permission to use music from a well known band, it still gets deleted cos deviantart doesn't believe them. :P
